A Green Network That Runs Behind Your Back Fence
Fairfax County parks alone cover more than 22,000 acres, with over 334 miles of trails. Much of that land follows creeks: Accotink, Difficult Run, Cub Run, Pohick, and Holmes Run. The 41.5-mile Cross County Trail links it all from Great Falls to Lorton. Arlington has Four Mile Run and the Potomac shoreline. Loudoun has Broad Run, Sugarland Run, and Goose Creek. These green strips are great for families. They are also roads for mice and rats, with water, seeds, and cover the whole way. Thousands of Northern Virginia yards back right onto them.
Housing Stock From Every Decade Since the 1700s
Old Town Alexandria has rowhouses with brick and stone foundations that are more than two centuries old. Arlington grew fast during and after World War II. Its brick colonials have had 80 years to settle. Springfield, Annandale, and Burke filled in from the 1950s to the 1970s with ramblers and split-levels. Many now have old crawl vents, worn garage seals, and gaps around pipes. Reston, founded in 1964, added townhomes with shared walls. The newest homes are in Ashburn, South Riding, Gainesville, and Bristow. There, builder gaps and unsealed pipe openings are the usual way in.

Busy areas like Rosslyn-Ballston, Old Town, and Tysons pack restaurants and dumpsters close together. That feeds rats all year. Farther out, land cleared for new homes and data centers along Route 28 and the Dulles corridor pushes rodents out of fields. They head for the closest warm building. What Northern Virginia Homeowners Notice First
Most people find droppings first: the back of a pantry shelf, under the kitchen sink, along the garage wall, or next to the water heater. Then comes the sound. Scratching in the ceiling or walls after dark, most often from October through March. You may also see chewed food boxes, shredded insulation, or dark greasy rub marks where a rodent runs the same path along a wall.

How We Get Rid of Mice and Rats in Northern Virginia Homes
Inspect, Treat, Then Seal
Every job starts with our 78-point inspection. On a 1950s Springfield rambler, the way in is often a crawl vent or a gap where the original gas line enters. On an Old Town rowhouse it may be a soft mortar joint or an old coal chute. On a new Ashburn townhome it is usually an unsealed pipe run or a gap at the garage seal. Finding the entry point is what makes the rest work.
