Our program is built around that behavior: timed exterior treatment, dust into wall voids where they cluster, and the standard general pest control plan with tri-annual maintenance.
Your technician walks the home inside and out to find the entry points overwintering boxelder bugs are using — sun-warmed siding seams, foundation gaps, window and soffit gaps, and any nearby boxelder, maple, or ash trees feeding the local population.
Timed for late summer through early fall before boxelder bugs push inside, we apply a non-repellent residual on siding, around windows, and along foundation edges. Hitting the timing window — before they slip into wall voids — is what makes the perimeter treatment work.

Honestly, no — and any company that promises that is overselling. Boxelder bugs enter through any tiny gap they can find in fall: siding seams, foundation cracks, window trim, soffit corners, roofline joints. A perimeter exclusion treatment significantly reduces the volume that gets inside and cuts down on the cluster sizes you'll see in spring, but it cannot fully exclude every gap on an average home. The goal is far fewer bugs inside, not zero.

Vacuum them — always. Boxelder bugs release a reddish defensive secretion when crushed that stains curtains, walls, light-colored upholstery, and trim. The smell isn't great either. Use a vacuum (ideally one with a disposable bag), empty it outside, and avoid sweeping or stomping on clusters. If you have an indoor population large enough to matter, that's our cue to look at where they're emerging from inside the wall.
