Yes — free for homeowners interested in protection or who suspect activity; the formal WDI letter for closings is a separate document — call (703) 683-2000 for current pricing on that. If you own a home in Alexandria or Northern Virginia, you suspect termite activity, or you're thinking about long-term protection, a licensed technician will walk the property and give you a straight answer at no charge. What's the difference between this and a WDI letter?

This inspection is for homeowners — it's free, no pressure, and the goal is to tell you whether you have wood-destroying insects and what to do about it. A WDI letter (sometimes called an NPMA-33 or a "termite letter") is a formal document that buyers, sellers, lenders, and the VA require at real-estate closings. How long does an inspection take?

About 30–60 minutes for a typical Alexandria or Northern Virginia home. The technician walks the exterior foundation, checks the crawl space or basement, looks at accessible interior areas — windowsills, trim, garage walls — and then talks through what they found before they leave. It's helpful but not required. If you can be home, you'll get the walkthrough and the explanation in person — most homeowners find that's the most useful part. If you can't, we can still inspect with exterior and crawl-space access and follow up by phone with what we found. We'll just need a way to reach areas like the crawl-space hatch or basement.
What if you find termites?

The technician will walk you through what they found, where, and the treatment options that fit your situation — Sentricon baiting, a liquid termiticide, or a combination of the two depending on whether the infestation is active and how the home is built. There's no pressure to decide on the spot. You'll get a clear, honest recommendation; if you want to think about it, sleep on it, or get a second opinion, that's fine.
What wood-destroying insects do you look for? +
Subterranean termites (by far the most common in Northern Virginia), carpenter ants, powderpost beetles, and wood-decay fungi. The technician is looking for both active insects and the signs they leave behind — mud tubes, frass, exit holes, discarded wings, blistered paint, soft or hollow-sounding wood. If we see anything that points to wood damage, you'll hear about it.
How often should I have an inspection done? +
Once a year is the standard recommendation for Alexandria and Northern Virginia homes — termite pressure here is high enough that annual checks are the right cadence for most homeowners. If you're already on a termite protection plan with us, that annual inspection is built in at no extra cost. If you're not on a plan, it's still worth scheduling each spring or fall as a free homeowner inspection.
Is there any obligation to sign up for service? +
None. This is a no-pressure, no-obligation inspection. Plenty of these end with us telling a homeowner their property looks clean and recommending an annual check next year — and that's it. If you do want to talk about ongoing protection, we'll quote it on the spot; if you don't, we'll leave you alone.
