Honestly, yes — carpenter bees re-bore every spring. Females emerging from overwintering tunnels look for untreated wood and either widen an existing gallery or start a new one nearby. That's why timing matters: we recommend an annual spring visit before the new brood emerges, and a second pass in late summer if galleries are still active. We treat what's there now and stay ahead of the next cycle — we don't tell homeowners a one-time treatment makes the property carpenter-bee-proof forever.
It does. Carpenter bees strongly prefer bare, weathered, untreated wood. Painted or stained surfaces are rarely attacked because the females don't get the same scent cues from the wood. After treatment, homeowners who want to take the long-term deterrent further can fill the treated holes themselves with steel wool and wood putty and then paint or stain the affected boards — that's the most effective long-term step we recommend, and it's a homeowner-side cosmetic task rather than something included in the treatment.
No — they look similar but the difference is the abdomen. Carpenter bees have a shiny, hairless black abdomen. Bumble bees are fuzzy all over with yellow-and-black bands across their whole body, including the abdomen. Females can sting but rarely do unless they're directly handled or trapped against skin.
