Our earwig program is built around non-repellent treatments — the industry-standard approach. Combined with tri-annual maintenance, it keeps earwig pressure in check through the wet stretches that push them into Northern Virginia and Maryland basements.
Your technician walks the home inside and out, identifies the harborage zones, and looks for entry points. Earwigs track moisture and damp mulch, so we focus the inspection on foundation beds, leaf litter, downspouts, and any damp edge against the slab.
Where earwig activity is present indoors, we apply targeted, non-repellent products in cracks and crevices at the hot spots we find — door thresholds, window frames, and baseboards in basements and ground-floor bathrooms. Targeted placement, not broadcast spraying across living areas.
We treat the exterior foundation and perimeter with non-repellent products to reduce pressure from outside. Your technician will also note any conducive conditions worth addressing — mulch piled against siding, downspouts dumping next to the slab, or leaf litter holding moisture along the foundation.
Most pest control materials offer around 120 days of residual, so we return three times per year on a regular schedule to refresh the treatment and stay ahead of the season.

No — this is a common myth that gets the insect a worse reputation than it deserves. The name comes from the ear-shaped back wing, not from any actual behavior. Earwigs prefer dark, damp hiding spots like mulch and leaf litter, not warm bodies. There's no biological reason for one to enter a human ear, and it isn't something that happens in practice.
Your technician inspects the home inside and out, identifies the harborage zones — mulch beds, foundation gaps, and damp edges along the slab — and applies non-repellent products at the hot spots where earwig activity is present, plus an exterior perimeter treatment around the foundation. We then return tri-annually for maintenance, since most pest control materials offer around 120 days of residual.

Yes — earwigs need moisture. Running a dehumidifier in a basement or crawl space that tends to run damp removes one of the main reasons earwigs stay once they wander inside. Combined with sealing entry points and the perimeter treatment, dehumidification tends to push the indoor population down quickly.
A few things help a lot. Pull mulch back so it isn't piled against the siding — a 6-12 inch strip of bare soil or gravel at the foundation breaks the harborage. Clear leaf litter from ground beds before spring. Make sure downspouts carry water away from the foundation, and aim sprinklers away from the slab. Where you can, swap white outdoor bulbs for yellow ones, which attract fewer earwigs at night.
