Our springtail program is built around non-repellent treatments — the industry-standard approach. Combined with tri-annual maintenance, it keeps pressure in check across the damp crawl spaces and humid bathrooms where springtails track water in Northern Virginia and Maryland homes.
Your technician walks the home inside and out, identifies the active zones, and looks for the moisture source feeding the population. Springtails track damp soil and water, so we focus the inspection on crawl spaces, bathroom plumbing, soaked mulch against the foundation, and any spot where humidity collects.
Where springtail activity is present indoors, we apply targeted, non-repellent products in cracks and crevices at the hot spots we find — baseboards, bathroom thresholds, plumbing penetrations, and active harborage zones. Targeted placement, not broadcast spraying across living areas.
We treat the exterior foundation and perimeter with non-repellent products to reduce pressure from outside. Your technician will also note any conducive conditions worth addressing — soaked mulch against the slab, drainage pushing water at the foundation, or vapor barrier issues in the crawl space.
Most pest control materials offer around 120 days of residual, so we return three times per year on a regular schedule to refresh the treatment and stay ahead of the season.

Almost certainly not. Springtails and fleas both jump, which is what trips up most homeowners, but look closer: springtails are more uniform in color (white, gray, tan, or dark), jump in random directions when disturbed, and don't land on you. Fleas are reddish-brown, target ankles and pets, and bite. If you're not sure, snap a photo and text it to (703) 683-2000 — we'll identify it on the call.

No. Springtails do not bite, sting, or transmit disease. They feed on mold, fungi, algae, and decaying plant matter — not blood. In very heavy indoor populations some homeowners report passing skin irritation from contact, but the bugs themselves have no biting mouthparts.
Bathrooms are humid by design — and if there's also a slow leak, condensation on cold pipes, grout failure letting moisture through, or weak exhaust ventilation, you've built ideal springtail conditions. They migrate in through baseboards, plumbing penetrations, and tile gaps. Fixing the moisture is the long-term answer; treatment knocks the current population down.
It depends on what we find on the inspection. Common fixes for Alexandria and Northern Virginia homes: repair a leaky supply line, run the bathroom exhaust fan longer, add a crawl space dehumidifier, repair the vapor barrier, regrade soil away from the foundation, cut back overwatering on houseplants and beds. Our tri-annual treatment schedule knocks the population down and keeps it in check, but the long-term fix is addressing the moisture source we flag during the inspection.
