Is a VA termite letter the same as a WDI report?

Yes. The VA termite letter, the WDI (wood-destroying insect) report, and the NPMA-33 are all names for the same document. It's a standardized National Pest Management Association form (the NPMA-33) that a licensed termite inspector fills out after walking the home. Is the NPMA-33 required for FHA and conventional loans too?

It depends on the state and the lender. In Virginia, DC, and Maryland, many lenders require the same NPMA-33 letter on FHA and conventional closings — not just VA loans. Some conventional lenders waive it, some don't. The inspector looks for active wood-destroying insects, evidence of previous infestation, visible damage, and conducive conditions like wood-to-ground contact, moisture, or improper grading. Do I have to sign a contract? +
No. The VA termite letter is a flat-fee, one-time service — no ongoing contract, no annual commitment.
