Mosquito Control Built for Upper Marlboro's Ponds, Wetlands, and Waterways
Upper Marlboro is surrounded by water. Schoolhouse Pond sits right across from the County Administration Building. Federal Spring Branch flows through downtown into the Western Branch of the Patuxent River. Just a few miles east, the Jug Bay wetlands and Merkle Wildlife Sanctuary cover thousands of acres of tidal marsh. Add BeechTree's 35-acre lake, HOA stormwater ponds, and old farm drainage ditches, and you've got one of the worst mosquito areas in Prince George's County.
Better Termite & Pest Control has served Maryland and Virginia families since 1968. Our research team removed 9 harsh chemicals from our programs and chose reduced-risk products like Essentria and EcoVia instead. Whether you live in BeechTree, Marlboro Meadows, Marlton, or Westphalia, we build your treatment plan around the water sources and vegetation on your property.
Every Upper Marlboro mosquito control plan includes unlimited callbacks at no extra cost. If mosquitoes come back between scheduled visits, so do we. No binding contracts. Call 703-683-2000 and talk directly with a licensed technician about your property.

How Upper Marlboro Mosquito Control Works
We start with a full property inspection. Our licensed technicians find every breeding source and resting area on your lot. In Upper Marlboro, that means checking drainage ditches along Old Marlboro Pike, standing water in old planters and bird baths, clogged gutters on 1970s-era homes in Marlboro Meadows, drainage ponds near BeechTree, and shaded landscape beds where water pools after storms.
We then use backpack sprayers to apply a targeted mix of fast-acting spray that kills adult mosquitoes on contact and a product that stops young mosquitoes from developing. We focus on shrub lines, deck undersides, eave overhangs, and thick plants where mosquitoes hide during the day. We treat where mosquitoes actually live, not your entire lot.
Each monthly visit builds on the last to create layered protection. If activity picks up after a summer storm or humid stretch, just call us. We come back between visits at no extra cost.
In2Care: Reaching Breeding Sites Beyond Your Yard
Upper Marlboro has standing water everywhere: Schoolhouse Pond, Federal Spring Branch, HOA lakes in BeechTree, retention ponds in Westphalia, and old farm drainage across the Croom corridor. Spray-only programs can't reach every one of those breeding sources. In2Care turns mosquitoes into the delivery system.
We place stations in shaded areas around your property. Egg-laying females are drawn to the water inside. When they land, they pick up a treatment that kills mosquito larvae and a biological material that stops adult mosquitoes within days. Those mosquitoes then spread the material to other water sources across your property and into nearby areas. They reach hidden spots along stream corridors, wetland edges, and drainage ponds that no technician could find or spray.
Why In2Care Works Well in Upper Marlboro
- Reaches breeding sites in stream corridors along the Western Branch and Federal Spring Branch beyond your property line
- Targets both adult mosquitoes and developing larvae in a single system
- Works continuously between technician visits with no repeated spraying
- Works alongside barrier sprays to provide two layers of protection all season long
Upper Marlboro Tick Control for Park-Adjacent Properties
Upper Marlboro is ringed by big parks. Rosaryville State Park covers 1,227 acres of mature hardwood forest. Watkins Regional Park spans 845 acres with campgrounds and woodlands. The Patuxent River corridor and Merkle Wildlife Sanctuary add thousands more acres of wildlife habitat. All that wooded land puts tick habitat right next to homes. Properties in Rosaryville, Marlboro Meadows, and along the Croom corridor face the strongest tick pressure. Lyme disease is a real concern across Prince George's County.
Our tick program uses granular treatments in spring and fall when tick numbers spike. From April through October, we spray along the edge where your mowed lawn meets natural woods or brushy edges. That border is where most tick bites happen to people and pets.
Tick Control Strategy
- Spring and fall granular treatments during peak tick activity windows
- Spray along lawn-to-woods edges where exposure is highest
- Damminix Tick Tubes that target ticks through the mouse-tick lifecycle
- All products vetted by our research team for results and reduced impact
Why Upper Marlboro Has Heavy Mosquito Pressure
Upper Marlboro sits in a low basin in Prince George's County where water collects from every direction. Schoolhouse Pond and Federal Spring Branch run through the center of town. The Western Branch of the Patuxent River flows just south of downtown. A few miles east, Jug Bay is one of the largest freshwater tidal wetlands on the East Coast. Merkle Wildlife Sanctuary adds 1,670 acres of marshes, ponds, and lowland forest. All of this water feeds mosquito breeding year after year.
The Asian tiger mosquito is the worst problem here. It bites during the day and loves the shaded yards, thick landscaping, and mature tree canopy found in neighborhoods like Marlboro Meadows, BeechTree, and Marlton. Common house mosquitoes come out at dusk and breed in any standing water. HOA lakes in BeechTree and Lake Arbor, stormwater ponds in Westphalia, and old farm ditches along the Croom corridor all feed the problem.
Summer highs reach the upper 80s with humidity that keeps the air thick from May through September. The area gets 45 to 46 inches of rain a year, with the heaviest months dropping over 4 inches. Many homes in Upper Marlboro were built between 1970 and 1999, so aging drainage, ground that has settled over the years, and mature plants hold moisture near foundations. Newer townhouse clusters in Westphalia Row and Kettering have shared dumpster areas and homes built close together that concentrate pest activity. Older homes in the historic district have gaps at siding, under roof edges, and at foundation walls that let pests move indoors.
Your Upper Marlboro Mosquito Control Schedule
March: We put down early-season mosquito treatments and granular tick treatments before mosquito season starts. Treating early, before temps stay above 50°F, gives you a head start before the heavy rains of May kick in.
April through October: Monthly barrier sprays cover plants, deck edges, building perimeters, and shaded resting spots. Each visit builds on the last. Homes near Schoolhouse Pond, the Western Branch, or BeechTree's lake may need visits every 3 weeks during peak summer.
November: Final granular tick treatment and tips to cut down on mosquitoes that try to survive the winter. Clearing them out now means fewer mosquitoes when spring comes back.
After Every Visit
We email you a report listing what we did and which products we used. If mosquito activity picks up between visits, call us for a free retreat. You never pay extra to get the results you signed up for.
Bundle Mosquito Control with Year-Round Protection
Most Upper Marlboro homeowners deal with more than mosquitoes. The same wetlands, parks, and waterways that breed mosquitoes also push ticks, ants, spiders, and rodents toward your home. Older ranchers in Marlboro Meadows, townhomes in Westphalia, and newer colonials in BeechTree all have their own pest problems.
Our SeasonGuard+ program puts mosquito control, tick prevention, Sentricon termite monitoring, and general pest management into one monthly plan starting at $95/month. You get 9 visits per year, one bill, and unlimited callbacks for any covered pest.

- Spring and fall granular tick treatments plus Damminix Tick Tubes
