We start with a full property inspection. Our licensed technicians locate every breeding source and resting area on your lot. In Sterling, that means checking detention ponds near Cascades, drainage along the W&OD Trail corridor, standing water in bird baths, clogged gutters on 1960s-era Sterling Park homes, and forgotten planters on back patios.
We then use backpack sprayers to apply a targeted mix of adulticide for fast knockdown and growth regulator to break the mosquito lifecycle. Why Sterling Has Heavy Mosquito Pressure
Sterling sits where three waterways meet. The Potomac River runs along the north near Cascades, Countryside, and Algonkian Regional Park. Broad Run flows through the center of eastern Loudoun County. Sugarland Run feeds a community lake and winds through one of Sterling's biggest neighborhoods. Together they create miles of slow-moving water, shaded banks, and wet lowlands where mosquitoes breed.
The Asian tiger mosquito is the most aggressive species here. It bites during the day and thrives under Sterling's heavy tree canopy in neighborhoods like Sterling Park, Sugarland Run, and Broad Run Farms. Common house mosquitoes come out at dusk and breed in standing water. Golf course irrigation at Lowes Island, HOA ponds across Cascades, and stormwater basins throughout the area all feed the problem.
Sterling's hot, humid summers push highs near 90°F with frequent thunderstorms dropping 4–5 inches of rain per month from June through August. The oldest homes in Sterling Park date to the mid-1960s, so many properties have aging drainage and mature landscaping that holds moisture. Newer developments in Cascades and Countryside have complex rooflines and heavily mulched beds that shelter mosquitoes and ants. All of this makes Sterling one of the toughest mosquito environments in Loudoun County.
