Ant Control Built for New Baltimore Homes

New Baltimore sits at the edge of Fauquier County where suburbs meet farmland and forest. Subdivisions like Brookside and Auburn Mill Estates back up to wooded greenbelts and stream corridors along Cedar Run and Broad Run. The historic village core has wood-frame homes dating to the 1800s. All of this creates ideal conditions for carpenter ants and odorous house ants. When spring arrives, ants move from rotting stumps, old fence posts, and damp wood into the closest warm structure.

Better Termite & Pest Control has been treating ant problems across Virginia since 1968. We use non-repellent products that ants carry back to the colony, killing the queen and stopping the problem at the source. Every plan includes tri-annual visits and unlimited free callbacks. Why New Baltimore Has Constant Ant Pressure

Three things make New Baltimore one of the more ant-active areas in Fauquier County.

Wooded lots and stream corridors. Cedar Run and Broad Run flow through the area, and most subdivisions in New Baltimore have wooded buffers, greenbelts, and walking trails along these streams. Rotting logs, leaf litter, and damp soil along these corridors are where carpenter ants build their parent colonies. Workers then travel along tree branches, fence lines, and mulch beds to reach your home.

A mix of old and new construction. The New Baltimore Historic District has wood-frame homes from the 1800s with stone foundations, crawl spaces, and aging porches. Newer homes in Brookside and Vint Hill have complex rooflines, wooden decks, and thick mulch beds against vinyl siding. Both types give ants easy entry. Carpenter ants exploit damp wood around leaky gutters, bath traps, and window frames. House ants follow pipes and wiring through wall gaps.

Warm, humid summers. July averages 88 degrees with over 70% humidity. Rain falls steadily through the warm months. That keeps soil damp, wood soft, and ant colonies active from April through November. Lake Brittle, the 77-acre fishing lake just south of town, and the many HOA ponds in Brookside add moisture to the local environment.

Carpenter Ants in New Baltimore

Carpenter ants are the most damaging ant in the New Baltimore area. They are large, black, and tunnel into damp or softened wood to build nests. They do not eat wood like termites, but the tunneling weakens beams, joists, and trim over time.

In New Baltimore, carpenter ants are common in both older and newer homes. Historic homes along Mason Lane and Georgetown Road have aging wood that gives ants easy nesting sites. Newer homes in Brookside and Auburn Mill Estates have decks, mulch beds, and wooded buffers where parent colonies live in stumps and dead branches just feet from your foundation.

Signs of carpenter ants include large black ants indoors (especially near sinks and windows), small piles of wood shavings near baseboards, and faint rustling sounds in your walls. If you see winged swarmers in spring, a mature colony is nearby. Call 703-683-2000 for a free inspection.

How We Treat Ants in New Baltimore

Store-bought ant sprays are repellents. They kill the ants you see, but the colony sends more workers on a different path. That is why the problem keeps coming back.

We take a different approach. Our products are non-repellent. Ants cannot detect the treatment. They walk through it and carry it back to the nest. Over 1 to 2 weeks, the product spreads through the colony and kills the queen. No queen means no colony.

  • Foundation perimeter: We spray around the outside of your home, hitting entry points, cracks, and where siding meets the foundation.
  • Interior spot treatment: We treat active trails, kitchens, bathrooms, and spots where ants get inside.
  • Gel bait placements: Bait goes near trails and entry points. Workers carry it back to every queen in the colony.
  • Moisture check: We look for damp wood, leaky pipes, and poor drainage that attract carpenter ants.

Odorous House Ants and Other Species

Carpenter ants do the most damage, but odorous house ants are the ones most New Baltimore homeowners see first. They are small, dark brown, and form long lines to food and water in your kitchen and bathroom. Crush one and it smells like rotten coconut.

These ants nest in wall voids, under floors, and in insulation. One colony can have multiple queens and tens of thousands of workers. Repellent sprays cause the colony to split, which gives you more colonies instead of fewer. Our non-repellent approach and bait placements work with the ants' behavior to reach every queen.

We also treat pavement ants, acrobat ants, and other species found in Fauquier County. Each species needs a different bait and treatment method. Our technicians know which approach works best.

New Baltimore Areas We Treat

We treat homes across New Baltimore and the surrounding area:

  • Brookside: Master-planned community with lakefront homes, wooded greenbelts, and walking trails. Carpenter ants build colonies in the wooded buffers and follow mulch beds to foundations.
  • Auburn Mill Estates / Jamisons Farm: Larger lots with mature trees and rural edges. Rotting stumps and fence lines near homes are common carpenter ant nesting sites.
  • Vint Hill: Mix of renovated military buildings and newer townhomes. Older structures have hidden voids where ants travel. Newer homes have mulch beds and complex rooflines that invite ant entry.
  • New Baltimore Historic District: Older wood-frame homes along Mason Lane, Georgetown Road, and Lee Highway. Stone foundations and aging porches provide easy access for ants.
  • Lee Highway Corridor (US 15/29): Homes and properties along the main route through town. Commercial areas with food waste attract odorous house ants into nearby homes.
  • Rural Properties: Farms and large lots along Cedar Run and Broad Run. Barns, grain storage, and outbuildings attract ants from the surrounding countryside.
