Fort Belvoir Mosquito Control Programs
Living on or near Fort Belvoir means dealing with some of the highest mosquito pressure in Northern Virginia. With over 5,400 acres of forest, 1,085 acres of wetlands, and 12 miles of Potomac River shoreline, the installation creates ideal breeding conditions for mosquitoes that can make your backyard unusable during summer months.
Our Fort Belvoir mosquito control programs combine fast-acting barrier sprays with innovative solutions like the In2Care system. We have removed 9 of the harshest chemicals common in our industry, choosing alternatives like EcoVia and Essentria that are easier on the environment while still delivering results.
Whether you live in the Villages at Belvoir, Kingstowne, Lorton, or surrounding Fairfax County neighborhoods, our licensed technicians understand the unique challenges of this wetland-heavy region. Our programs include unlimited free callbacks between scheduled visits, so if mosquitoes return, we come back at no extra cost.
As a family-owned company serving the DC Metro area for 57 years, we have helped over 100,000 homeowners reclaim their outdoor spaces. No binding contracts required—stay because the service works.

Why Fort Belvoir Has a Mosquito Problem
Fort Belvoir is surrounded by some of the most mosquito-friendly terrain in Northern Virginia. The Accotink Bay Wildlife Refuge (1,200 acres of wetlands) and Jackson Miles Abbott Wetland Refuge (150 acres of marsh) sit directly adjacent to residential areas like Dogue Creek Village and Fairfax Village.
The humid subtropical climate brings hot, humid summers that extend mosquito season from April through October. Accotink Creek and Pohick Creek watersheds receive over 43 inches of annual rainfall, keeping wetlands saturated and providing abundant breeding habitat for the Asian Tiger Mosquito, Culex pipiens, and other species.
Housing in the Villages at Belvoir ranges from historic Colonial Revival homes to modern Energy Star construction—but all share proximity to wooded buffers and water features that support year-round mosquito populations. Nearby civilian neighborhoods like Hayfield Farm, Kingstowne, and Laurel Hill face similar challenges from retention ponds and preserved green space.
Monthly Mosquito Barrier Treatment
Our standard Fort Belvoir mosquito control program uses monthly barrier treatments from April through October—the peak mosquito season in Fairfax County. Each visit targets the specific areas where mosquitoes rest during daylight hours.
Licensed technicians apply treatments using backpack sprayers that deliver a precise combination of adulticide plus insect growth regulator. The adulticide knocks down active mosquito populations by over 50% within 24 hours, while the growth regulator disrupts the lifecycle to prevent larvae from developing into biting adults.
We focus applications on shaded foliage, ivy patches, dense vegetation along property edges, and areas around decks and patios. We avoid blooming flowers, fruit trees, and vegetable gardens to protect beneficial pollinators. The result is a protective barrier that makes your outdoor space enjoyable again.
Treatment Schedule
Monthly visits run from April through October (7 treatments total). Each treatment provides approximately 3 weeks of protection. If mosquito pressure returns between visits, our unlimited callback policy means we come back and retreat at no extra charge.
In2Care: No-Spray Mosquito Control
For homeowners who prefer not to have spray applications—or want enhanced protection for properties near wetlands—our In2Care mosquito control system provides an innovative alternative.
In2Care stations contain a specially treated gauze strip with larvicide and beneficial fungus. When mosquitoes enter the station to lay eggs, they contact these materials and become carriers. They then spread the control agents to every other breeding site they visit—including storm drains, tree holes, and water sources on neighboring properties we cannot directly access.
This auto-spreading mechanism is particularly valuable for Fort Belvoir homes adjacent to Accotink Bay, Pohick Creek, or the wooded buffers around military housing. The stations work continuously between service visits, extending protection beyond your property boundaries.
Benefits of In2Care
The In2Care system requires no spraying and is harmless to humans, pets, and beneficial insects like bees. It targets mosquito biology specifically through biological agents rather than broad-spectrum chemicals. Stations require monthly maintenance from April through October and operate silently in the background.
LawnShield: Mosquito + Tick Protection
Fort Belvoir\'s forested terrain means tick exposure is as much a concern as mosquitoes. Our LawnShield program combines monthly mosquito treatments with targeted tick applications for complete yard protection.
The mosquito component uses the same fast-acting barrier spray described above. For ticks, we add two granular applications—one in spring and one in fall—timed to coincide with tick lifecycle peaks. We also deploy Damminix Tick Tubes containing permethrin-infused cotton that mice collect for their nests, delivering control agents directly to tick habitat.
With deer, small mammals, and birds abundant in the wildlife refuges surrounding Fort Belvoir, tick populations can quickly establish in yards that border preserved green space. LawnShield addresses both threats with 9 strategically timed treatments per season.
One Bill, Complete Protection
LawnShield consolidates mosquito and tick control into a single monthly service with simplified billing. Treatments run March through November, and our unlimited callback policy covers both pests.
What Fort Belvoir Area Neighbors Say
"we've had a subscription service with this company for yrs, since moving into our current house, and realizing it was rather...spidery. But NO MORE! Better Termite uses pet-friendly, but not spider-friendly products, and we are now creepy crawly-free! Over the years, they've also tackled ants, bees, and HORRIBLE paper wasps! Further, Cindy and Darren are awesome to work with, and really know their stuff! I can't recommend this company enough."
"Daren did an outstanding job conducting my termite inspection today. He was right on time and extremely professional thorough throughout the entire process. I did not have any problems, and he was very good with some solid advice about how to continue to guard against not only termites but other rodents as well. Cindy also expertly took care of me throughout the process... Outstanding job!!"
"Thanks to a quick ChatGPT search, I was able to cut through all the noise on the internet and find Better Termite & Pest. Following a review of their informative website, I called and spoke with Hussam—and he's awesome! He listened patiently to my issues and thoughtfully suggested services that fit my particular needs. Hussam also made it a point to pair me with a technician whose expertise aligns with the issues I am facing."
"I love Darren over at Better Termite. He is always so attentive and kind, and really goes, IMO, out of his way to do a fantastic job. And I am so happy that I had NO MOSQUITOES this summer in my backyard in spite of the fact that there is a drainage area right behind my house, and that is 100% because of Better Termites services."
"i've had nothing but great experiences for 3 years now. Their consistent, reliable service really stands out for me, and everyone is always kind and easy to talk to. I also like that they're a local, family-run business... Kamaal, who i'm gonna call my customer consultant, is fantastic—he really listens to my concerns and works with me to come up with the best plan for whatever pest issues i'm dealing with."
