How Damascus Mosquito Control Works
We start with a full property inspection. Our licensed technicians find every breeding source and resting area on your lot. Why Damascus Has Heavy Mosquito Pressure
Damascus sits on Parr's Ridge, about 300 feet above the surrounding Piedmont. Water drains into multiple stream valleys from here. Magruder Branch creek and its wetlands run right through town along the hiker-biker trail. Marshy sections and forested edges create prime mosquito habitat within walking distance of most neighborhoods.
To the west, Little Bennett Regional Park covers 3,700 acres of streams, swamps, and floodplains. Patuxent River State Park adds over 900 acres nearby. The town is also surrounded by working farms and horse properties in the Agricultural Reserve. Manure piles, water troughs, and irrigation runoff all create extra mosquito breeding sites close to homes.
The climate makes it worse. Damascus gets 46-48 inches of rain per year. Frequent summer thunderstorms leave standing water in low yards, clogged gutters, and containers. Summer highs reach 85-86°F with high humidity, pushing the mosquito season well into October. All that water, thick vegetation, and warm weather make Damascus one of the worst areas for mosquitoes in upper Montgomery County.
