Why Alexandria Has Heavy Mosquito Pressure
Alexandria sits at the intersection of the Potomac River, multiple tributary streams, and nearly 20% mapped floodplain. Four Mile Run and its 11-acre tidal wetland border the city's northeast side near Arlandria and Hume Springs. Cameron Run and Holmes Run drain the West End and Seminary Hill areas. The Asian tiger mosquito (Aedes albopictus) is the most aggressive species in Alexandria.
